A stark warning has gone out to anyone caught fly tipping or dropping litter in Mansfield following a court case in which a Mansfield Woodhouse man was fined for dumping rubbish in a car park.
Jeffery Stone of Sandgate Avenue, admitted dumping the rubbish at Mansfield Magistrates Court last week. He was fined £50 under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and ordered to pay £100 in court costs. Mr. Stone was filmed by CCTV cameras depositing household waste tied up in black rubbish bags at a car park off Slant Lane in Mansfield Woodhouse. These same CCTV cameras have caught a number of other fly tippers who's cases are pending.
A Flying Skip scheme had been operating at the car park the day before the offence took place, but Stone dumped rubbish at the site the following day.
Councillor Phil Smith, Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, said: “This acts as a stark warning to anyone who deposits litter or any kind of rubbish in the district. “We will not tolerate anyone dumping litter whether it be dropping litter in the street or taking bulky or household waste into the countryside and leaving it in a hedgerow or layby. It is a disgusting crime and as well as being a danger to the environment, it is very costly for the Council to clear up.
“I would urge people to think before they deposit their waste and take it to the Household Waste and Recycling Centres in the district. If you are caught dropping litter or rubbish you will be fined.”
Information obtained from Mansfield Borough Council's website where a picture is available of the culprit in the act.
