Disposal of household waste

Each authority has their own policy with regard to the collection of large household items. To find out what this policy is please visit your local authority's web site.

This section gives advice to householders with waste that can be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

Yes you can take a van

But you need a permit.

The Lancashire County Council's HWRCs have an access policy which has been designed to help reduce congestion, increase safety and prevent trade waste being deposited illegally at their centres.

The HWRC's will accept household waste delivered by:

  • A car with or without a single axle trailer (up to 3m long)
  • A van, flat back or pickup truck (with no more than 4 wheels) WITH A PERMIT
  • A twin axle trailer (up to 3m long) WITH A PERMIT
  • A pedestrian WITH A PERMIT

Any vehicle with more than four wheels, any tipper vehicle, any trailer more than 3 metres long or any vehicle carrying trade waste will not be allowed to deposit rubbish at a Lancashire County Council HWRC.

Permits allow a van belonging to a household to deposit was once per month. They run for a month and each household can only have one per month. More information

The fully trained operatives at the HWRCs will assist in placing your waste in the correct skip. Remember inert waste going to landfill is the most expensive option to you the Council Tax payer.
